David & Alice Alkosser

Alice first ventured into the Napa Valley while studying Food Chemistry at UC Davis. She developed an interest in wines and enrolled in a viticulture and enology classes. After completing her degree, Alice pursued her career in research and development for major food companies such as Hunt Wesson Foods, Gerber’s Baby Foods, Van de Kamp Frozen Foods and others. She specialized in new product development and sensory analysis while also working as a professional taster.

David graduated in Engineering from Cal Poly and started his working career as an industrial engineer but always had an entrepreneurial eye toward owning his own business one day. He met Alice and they married in 1980; residing in the Southern California beach communities of Orange County.

They soon founded their own real estate ownership, development, and management company and grew it to encompass a multi-state portfolio.

Alice and David developed their interest in wine through their extensive travels to wine producing and culinary meccas all over the world. Over the years their curiosity in fine wine and food grew into a passion coupled with an intense drive to expand their knowledge.

Both Alice and David long possessed an intense love affair with the land and found it manifesting itself once again while visiting the Napa Valley in 2005. They discovered a magnificent vineyard property in the hills of Coombsville and decided to create an estate where all of their dreams could be realized. Hence Shadybrook Estate was founded!

Within the span of two years, they acquired two adjacent sites to the south and west of Shadybrook Estate so it now spans 25 hillside acres with 15 planted to five individual clones of Cabernet Sauvignon along with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

The Alkossers set the quality bar high; since inauguration in 2010, Shadybrook Estate wines have become an exclusive award winning brand, rising to the top in wine tasting competitions.

In the fall of 2013 when another highly respected vineyard and source of countless award winning wines became available they were ready to expand. Hidden beneath the northeastern mountains fo Napa Valley's Vaca Range, on the eastern slopes of Howell Mountain, they purchased what is now known as Secret Rows Ranch. This 156 acres ranch with 84 planted provides additional source of grapes to complement the Bordeaux varietals at Shadybrook Estate.

On February 1st of 2016, David and Alice purchased the Chateau Lane Winery at Rapp Ranch Estate. This state of the art winery comes with the best modern technological winery equipment imported from italy. It includes a tasting room, commercial kitchen and a fabulous 4,000 square foot outdoor patio with a bocce court. This hidden gem is located at the end of Second Ave in the newest, most exciting AVA of Coombsville.

The Alkossers' have big plans for the property as it goes through transformation into becoming the best destination to visit in Napa. We look forward to sharing these amazing tranformations with our visitors!
